Balancing Real Estate Blogging and Social Media Content

The first thing I explain to clients - be they in the real estate industry or otherwise engaged - is the importance of balancing the content they place on their blog or other Social Media feeds.

There's a reason it is called Social Media: chiefly because it is a form of media, albeit one that is now controlled by you, otherwise known as the common Joe or Jane.

I spent many years as a Music Director and Program Director in radio media and as an editor in magazine media. And balance of content is something that traditional media pays much attention to. You'd probably be surprised at the intense effort that is put into making sure that, for example, every song is "balanced" (in things like texture, year, genre, style, gender, etc.) by the song that plays both before and after it - and on through the remaining songs of that hour.

My point here is that every form of media balances the content that they present to consumers and you - a real estate agent moving into the blogging and Social Media sphere - should/must do the same. Vary the things that you are blogging about.

Consider creating a few categories that you wish to cover on a regular basis - ones which build your online persona as a trustworthy agent that also is a real person and cares about things in his community aside from real estate.

Let's talk about Meghan, a fictional agent based in Reno. She, of course, wants to blog about real estate in her market, and she should. But she balances it with occasional blogs covering running marathons (one of her passions), community events and festivals in her city, and profiles of other business-people she knows and respects. So Meghan has four categories that she blogs about and she rotates them weekly, perhaps like this:

First Week of the Month: Real Estate News
Second Week: Marathon Info
Third Week: Profile of Another Business Person
Fourth Week: Community Events and Charities

And, occasionally, Meghan gets really crazy and even blogs about something else entirely. So, it's about balance and displaying yourself as a real, complete person. And, hopefully, some of those Reno marathon fans come to like Meghan's marathon postings (and her) and even become real estate clients.

In my next blog, I'll talk more about Content Marketing and balancing needs in other forms of real estate Social Media.

Thanks for reading!

Tip One: Post Viral Videos on Your Blog

Shazam! It's Day One of the NikkiandChris.com 21-Day Real Estate Blog Challenge. As I'm helping to administer and coach during the challenge, I thought it'd be a good idea if I participated too!

Since I spend most of every day writing blogs and Social Media content for clients in the real estate field and other industries, I'm afraid I've been quite neglectful when it comes to handling my own blogging. Time is tight for all of us and just like many of you participating in the 21-Day challenge, I'm happy that Nikki and Chris are spurring me to develop the discipline of blogging for MYSELF on a regular basis.

Since I'm not a real estate agent, my topics during these 21 days will be focused on ideas that agents and others can utilize to make their blogs shine and build their online persona and search engine optimization (SEO) strength. I'll share content ideas and tips that you can utilize in the future...principles and strategies that I use on a daily basis to manage the blog and social media content for real estate agents and other clients nationwide.

Idea One

Do not be afraid to jump on the viral bandwagon, especially when it's a piece of content that resonated with you in particular.

Just a couple weeks back, a video of the halftime performance of the Ohio State University Marching Band spread like wildfire across the Internet. It already has accumulated more than 11.2 million views on YouTube? Why? Because the performance is amazing.

It's the kind of viral content that produces a lot of exactly what you want on your Facebook page: a ton of shares, Likes, and comments. Not all of your content has to - or should be - about real estate. You are also now an entertainment provider, so use that to balance your sales posts and not exhaust and bore your Fans and Followers with an endless stream of "selling and pitching."

Embed it in Your Blog Just Like This

But don't just share it on Facebook or tweet it. Put the video on YOUR blog. Then post the link on your Facebook or Twitter feeds. This way, your blog and/or real estate website will benefit from the traffic.

In addition, Google search notices when you have a video on your page, an added benefit for your search engine optimization and the goal of seeing your website or blog strengthen its' standing in Google search results.

Just as importantly, you've come across an easy, topical, and beneficial way to write a post for your blog, even on those days or a week when you can't come up with anything else to write.

It's pretty easy to embed video on most platforms, but if you need help in learning how to do so, shoot me an
email and I'll help walk you through it.

Do You Understand That You Are Now a Media Publisher?

Do you understand that if you have a Facebook, Twitter or Google+ page you are now a member of the media - no matter what business or industry you are in? Your Social Media presence and content places you in the same category as a newspaper, magazine, radio or TV station.

Do you understand that if your Facebook, Twitter and Google+ presence is nothing more than a marketing brochure for your business you will typically achieve very little benefit from your Social Media activities?

Do you understand that, just like a magazine or radio station, users of Facebook, Twitter and Google+ come to your pages to also be entertained and informed?

Do you understand that such an approach is mandatory in order to benefit from the viral and social word-of-mouth marketing that these vehicles provide?

That's exactly what I offer with Mark Bingaman's Social Media Content Marketing services. As a lifelong radio broadcaster, Program Director, Marketing Director, writer and magazine editor, it has always been my job to find, write, share and publish information and entertainment relevant to the target audience of the radio station, magazine or website that employed me.

And that's exactly what I offer with Mark Bingaman's Social Media Content Marketing. I specialize in writing and developing high quality Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and Blog content that is designed to engage your followers and fans, increasing comments, shares, likes and your audience.

I currently develop the daily content marketing and Facebook and Twitter posts for 20 local businesses of many types ranging from chiropractors to plastic surgeons to insurance agencies to real estate entities and many varieties of small business.
